Summary

"Quickie" by Stephen Marlowe is a science fiction story set in a future where marriage is short-term and temporary, called "Quickies," where people can legally marry multiple partners. The story follows Simon Grover, a man wanting excitement instead of commitment, as he enters a "Quickie" marriage with Jane-Marie Paige. As they get closer, Simon questions if their relationship is real, especially knowing it will soon end. The story gains tension as Simon's past threatens to expose him as an outsider in this society built on fleeting relationships. He must come to terms with his identity, freedom, and the real need for connection amid all the short-term romances.
