"Highways in Hiding" by George O. Smith is a science fiction story from the middle of the 20th century. Following a terrible car wreck while running away to get married, Steve Cornell, who has telepathic powers, wakes up with serious injuries and the awful mystery of his fiancée, Catherine Lewis, missing. He was told by the doctor that he was in the car alone, but he knows that he was with Catherine. The adventure looks into ideas about telepathy, hidden underground roads, and secret diseases while Steve looks for Catherine. Could the clues to the location of Catherine and to better understanding the mysterious disease be in the subterranean roads? Steve's struggle with what is reality and what is an illusion raises concerns about what it means to be human.
