Summary

"Matchmaker" by Charles L. Fontenay is a science fiction story set in a world controlled by the Calculator, a device that uses math to arrange relationships in order to fix problems with the population. The story shows Lao Protik, an artist, whose life falls apart when he gets caught up in secrets that ruin his job and his life. He is forced to marry Grida Mattin, a woman he doesn't feel anything for at first. Even though their relationship is forced, Lao finds himself falling for Grida’s sister, Alina. The book talks about love, marriage, and how people connect when the government has too much control.

Charles Louis Fontenay was an American journalist and science fiction writer. He wrote science fiction novels and short stories. His non-fiction includes the biography of the prominent New Deal era politician Estes Kefauver.
