"Back to Julie" by Richard Wilson is a science fiction story that explores the twists of different realities with compelling characters dealing with morally complex situations. The book presents the journey of a man capable of moving between worlds, who gets caught in a scheme led by a crooked District Attorney named Krasnow. Krasnow wants the protagonist to help him obtain what he wants from an alternate dimension and promises to reward him for his efforts. The protagonist is tasked with getting a formula for a truth gas that has destroyed war in Krasnow's reality; however, he becomes involved with a charming woman named Julie from the new dimension. He successfully obtains the formula while enjoying the pleasures of this bewitching new world, but then struggles with his own desires and goals of possibly using the truth gas for his own ambitions. Ultimately, he decides to adopt Krasnow's deceptive tactics in Julie's world, but then has a change of heart to be with Julie.
