Summary

"Hunting License" by James V. McConnell is a darkly funny science fiction story that plays with ideas about crime and punishment. Set in a future where the wealthy are allowed to hunt criminals for sport, the story follows William Karsten III and Thomas Thurman as they go on a guided hunting trip led by Emmett Packer. The men eagerly pursue their human prey, viewing them as nothing more than animals to be hunted. The hunt takes a strange turn when they find a naked man who may be a former professor of Karsten's which forces Karsten to question his desire to pull the trigger. This story uses humor to explore what society thinks about justice and personal morals mixed with a chilling hunting adventure.
