Summary

"A Child of the Jago" by Arthur Morrison is a book that paints a picture of tough times in London's East End during the late 1800s. The story centers on a young boy named Dicky Perrott, who lives in a really bad neighborhood called the Jago, and it shows how hard life is for people there. Dicky deals with problems like violence, not having enough food, and trying to stay safe, while also figuring out things like family and right from wrong. The book does not hide how rough things were, showing the area as grimy and the people struggling to get by, like Kiddo Cook and Mr. Beveridge, who get into trouble with crimes just to make it through each day. The book tries to involve people in the story by showing what Dicky's life was like, struggling with his background, and showing the complicated relationships that happen when people are trying to survive in a place filled with despair.
