Summary

"A Son of the State" by W. Pett Ridge is a story set in London during the early 1900s, where young Bobbie Lancaster finds himself alone after his mother passes away. The story kicks off in the busy streets of Hoxton, introducing Bobbie as he deals with being an orphan. He's a smart kid, but also feels lost, trying to find his place among the tough realities of working-class life. He interacts with other kids and adults, showing off a brave face while trying to figure out who he is. The book explores how Bobbie handles his loss, tries to stay strong, and looks for a sense of belonging in a world that often feels unfair.
