Summary

"Table d'Hôte" by W. Pett Ridge involves humorous short stories that poke fun at British social life in the early 1900s. It uses interesting people in crazy situations to make a funny comment on families, how people are expected to act, and how weird people can be. For instance, Mr. and Mrs. Baynes have a funny argument over a system of penalties that Mr. Baynes wants to put Mrs. Baynes under. The story touches on the topic of marriage and the foolishness of maintaining appearances, even if, deep down, there are some serious moments beneath all the comedy.
