Summary

"Lalage's Lovers" by George A. Birmingham is a story about a bright young girl named Lalage Beresford, set in the early 1900s. We meet Lalage, a clever fourteen-year-old, as she enjoys funny and smart talks with a close friend in the church, while also dealing with her strict governess. The story kicks off with her humorous and sharp comments from a pigpen, this shows her bold personality and clever way of looking at those in charge, like her governess, whom she playfully calls "Cattersby." Her actions highlight her development throughout the novel as she faces social norms while staying true to herself.

About the Author
