Summary

"The Cattle-Baron's Daughter" by Harold Bindloss is a story about a cattle baron’s daughter named Hetty Torrance figuring out who she is and the societal expectations of her on the American prairie. The book looks at the differences in social class, having big goals, and how things were changing in America. At first, Hetty is thinking about her life while in New York City, missing her home, and trying to decide what to do about Captain Jackson Cheyne. But when she meets Larry Grant, someone she used to know on the prairie, things get messy, and she starts to wonder about love and what she should do. The story kicks off Hetty’s big struggle as she gets ready to face a life full of expectations while she remembers the freedom and beauty of her simple days out West.
