Summary

"Blake's Burden" by Harold Bindloss is a story set in early Canada. It follows Richard Blake, a man trying to overcome a bad reputation from his past while interacting with people like the lively Millicent Graham and the respected Mrs. Keith, as they navigate the social scene of Quebec alongside notable figures such as Captain Sedgwick. Blake's attempts at distancing himself from his past become intertwined with the lives of those around him, and the novel explores themes of redemption, how society judges people, personal growth, friendship, loyalty, and how people's pasts can trouble them. Central to the story is Millicent, who deals with her own troubled history related to her father.
