"The Weavers: a tale of England and Egypt of fifty years ago - Volume 2" by Gilbert Parker is a historical fiction story that follows David Claridge as he lives in Cairo, Egypt, in the late 1800s, dealing with problems in his life while huge political and personal changes happen all around him. Pieces of his earlier life in England come back to him as he struggles with who he is, what he should do, and how to handle the complicated relationships he has with others. David thinks a lot about his own life as he travels through Cairo, as well all the while the story shows the busy life of Cairo at this time, featuring all types of people, like workers, government people, and the rich culture. While David is dealing with his difficult past, everything changes when he saves an English girl named Hylda Maryon. This moment leads to a sad turn of events and makes David question himself and his morals as he tries to understand what his role is in this foreign land.
