The book is about Paul's journey to find out the truth, dealing with love, sadness, and trying to fit in, even though his family has a complicated past, and along the way meets Colonel Vanderfelt. It's all about figuring out who you are when your family history is a bit of a mess and learning how the past can affect your future and even change how you see yourself and the people around you.
