Summary

"The Princess Casamassima (Volume 1 of 2)" by Henry James is a novel set in London during the 1800s that follows young Hyacinth Robinson as he grows up in a society filled with inequality. The story looks at things like unfairness in society, who people think they are, and how hard it can be to find your way when life is tough. We meet Hyacinth through Miss Pynsent, who cares for him and worries about his future because of his mother, Florentine, who is in prison. Miss Pynsent's feelings about Hyacinth and Florentine show how the past can make things hard, and foreshadow the troubles Hyacinth will face as he tries to figure out who he is.
