Summary

"Brought Out of Peril" by Emma Leslie is a tale of a young woman named Fanny Brown as she tries to balance her personal desires with her family's needs. After completing her first month of work, Fanny is eager to show off her new watch, but her mother is upset that she didn't use the money to help the family, especially her sick sister Eliza, who needs to go to the seaside to get better. The story looks at what it was like for working-class families and young adults in the past as Fanny deals with her money, takes on responsibilities, and struggles to do what's best for herself and her loved ones, with Jessie Collins suggesting even harder work. The novel explores the conflicts between what Fanny wants for herself and what her family needs from her.
