Summary

"Star Performer" by Robert Shea is a science fiction story about Gavir, a Martian with an incredible talent for singing and dreamcasting, who finds himself on Earth adapting to a world that both excites and oppresses him; Gavir soon discovers how the Martian Development Corporation mistreats his people as he becomes famous. As Gavir's fame rises, he becomes entangled in a web of violence, ethical problems, and personal conflicts, which leads to a final encounter that reveals the dark side of power and vengeance on both Earth and Mars; through this journey, Gavir loses his innocence and fights for justice as he struggles being caught between Earth and Mars.

About the Author

Robert Joseph Shea was an American novelist and former journalist best known as co-author with Robert Anton Wilson of the science fantasy trilogy Illuminatus! It became a cult success and was later turned into a marathon-length stage show put on at the British National Theatre and elsewhere. In 1986 it won the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award. Shea went on to write several action novels based in exotic historical settings.
