Summary

"The Saracen: The Holy War" by Robert Shea is a historical fiction swirling with political games and clashing beliefs during the 1200s. The saga follows Daoud ibn Abdallah, once a Christian crusader but now a Muslim convert, as he tries to survive in a world threatened by both Christians and Tartars. The book travels back and forth in time, revealing Daoud’s past and the tricky situation he's in, where he must stop the Tartar Khan from joining forces with the Christians. Along the way, he's joined by Sophia, a Byzantine woman, and Simon de Gobignon, a nobleman, whose mixed-up feelings for Daoud add layers of emotional depth. The story builds suspense, with Daoud facing his failures and focusing on protecting his people. The conflict between faiths and loyalties shapes the unfolding story.
