Carrying a sealed cylinder containing vital information, Simms gets tangled in a struggle between his mission and the shady schemes of some Earthmen who want to misuse Venus's "Deleon" Salts to become young again. He faces a moral problem when he discovers that he is part of the space-rat Halleck's grand plot, which involves risking everything to achieve the nobler goal he believes in.
