Summary

"The Stellar Legion" by Leigh Brackett is a science fiction story that takes place on Venus, diving into what it means to be loyal and find redemption through tough times. The book tells of the difficult lives of people in the Stellar Legion, an intergalactic military group. In this story, we meet Ian MacIan, a troubled man from Earth who signs up for the Legion and finds himself in a dangerous Venus swamp filled with creatures, called the Nahali, where, along with Thekla, who is from Mars, and Bhak, from Titan, he is sent on dangerous missions. All the while, there is the constant possibility of someone on their team betraying each other; Macian, along with his past, must find a way to save himself and his team from danger showing what he is truly made of through surviving challenges and intense situations.

About the Author

Leigh Douglass Brackett was an American author and screenwriter. Nicknamed "the Queen of Space Opera," she was one of the most prominent female writers during the Golden Age of Science Fiction. As a screenwriter, she was best known for her collaborations with director Howard Hawks, mainly writing Westerns and crime films. She also worked on an early draft of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), elements of which remained in the film; she died before it went into production.
