Waking up as machines, they try to figure out what happened and what it means for them and the rest of humanity; the pair begins to explore and unexpectedly meets up with other survivors and together, they team up to form a settlement, to figure out how to live in a tough, dangerous place now ruled by big, scary birds named tetrapteryxes as they embark on a quest to survive.

Murray Fletcher Pratt was an American writer of history, science fiction, and fantasy. He is best known for his works on naval history and the American Civil War and for fiction written with L. Sprague de Camp.
