Summary

"Hellhounds of the Cosmos" by Clifford D. Simak is a science fiction story about the end of the world as we know it. In this story, the Earth is attacked by strange beings called the "Horrors" that bring chaos and destruction. Dr. Silas White, a smart scientist, thinks he has a way to stop these creatures by sending people into the fourth dimension to fight them. A reporter named Henry Woods joins this dangerous mission, along with ninety-eight other men. They all get changed into fourth-dimensional beings and have to deal with their new bodies and what it means to exist. The story builds to a huge fight between the transformed humans and the Horrors, testing their new selves. The humans eventually win, saving Earth from the mysterious invaders and showing the power of survival and change.

About the Author

Clifford Donald Simak was an American science fiction writer. He won three Hugo Awards and one Nebula Award. The Science Fiction Writers of America made him its third SFWA Grand Master, and the Horror Writers Association made him one of three inaugural winners of the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement. He is associated with the pastoral science fiction subgenre.
