The vanishers

"The Vanishers" by Arthur J. Burks is a science fiction story about a marine unit who confront the unbelievable when they find themself teleported to a bizarre, deserted landscape after landing in what should have been familiar territory. Led by Major Rafe King, they quickly realize they're trapped, the sea replaced by a vast desert, an invisible barrier hemming them in, and shadowy figures stalking them. To make matters worse, they encounter enemy soldiers from a war that has already ended, increasing tensions and endangering their chances of survival. As they battle mysterious forces and the Shadow Men, the terrifying possibility dawns on them that they are no longer even on Earth, leading to a suspenseful fight for survival against the unknown.
