"Harwood's Vortex" by Robert Silverberg is a science fiction story about the dangers of unchecked scientific progress and the struggle for survival against an impossible enemy. After a scientist named Abel Harwood creates a gateway to another dimension, New York City is overrun by the Invaders, creatures that feed on electricity and spread fear. Together, Chuck and Laura race against time to close the vortex, battling the Invaders and working to end the chaos, to save their world from complete destruction.
