My Lady Greensleeves

"My Lady Greensleeves" by Frederik Pohl is a science fiction story set far in the future that draws you into a world divided by class and labor, a world where people are just trying to find equality or, at the very least, understanding; however, the riot at the Estates-General Correctional Institution, a hotbed for societal outcasts, sets the stage for disruption. The central character, Captain Liam O'Leary, anticipates the riot and becomes an unwitting participant as prisoners Sauer and Flock stir up trouble, and prisoners, like Sue-Ann Bradley, challenge the social order, leading to a governor desperate to maintain control, and society confronts the repercussions of its own strict class system, blurring the lines between prisoner and person.
