"Husbandry" by W.W. Jacobs is a funny story capturing the craziness that can happen in relationships. The tale spins around a night-watchman who gets stuck in a really awkward situation: a woman shows up at his work, totally convinced he's her husband who disappeared nine years earlier. Even though he tells her she's wrong, she won't listen, and soon the whole neighborhood joins in, backing her up. The poor watchman has to deal with being laughed at and the confusion of the moment, not to mention the anger of his actual wife. The story is all about how silly people can be when it comes to love and relationships, showing how easily things can get mixed up.
