"Striking Hard" by W. W. Jacobs is a funny story from long ago that looks at what happens when a husband and wife both decide to strike. Mr. Porter wants more money from his job, and Mrs. Porter feels she deserves more respect at home, so they both refuse to work. The story shows the funny chaos that comes when Mr. Porter has trouble taking care of the kids and house, while Mrs. Porter enjoys relaxing. Even though Mr. Porter eventually wins his work strike, he discovers that his wife now wants to be paid for housework, making everything even more complicated and showing how standing up for yourself can lead to unexpected results.
