Summary

"World of the Drone" by Robert Abernathy is a science fiction tale set in a world populated by machine-like beings, where a beetle-like creature named Dworn undertakes a dangerous mission as he transitions into adulthood. Dworn awakens in his armored machine to replenish resources and reunite with his horde, only to discover a scene of ruin: his fellow beetles destroyed in a surprise attack. Fueled by revenge and the need for survival in a harsh desert landscape, Dworn sets out to confront the deadly Drones, the force behind the destruction, facing dangerous encounters and forming an unexpected alliance with Qanya, a spider-machine, along the way.

About the Author

Robert Abernathy was an American science fiction author during the 1940s and 1950s. He was known primarily for his short stories which were published in many of the pulp magazines that flourished during the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Many of his stories have been included in anthologies of classic science fiction such as the French Les Vingt Meilleurs Récits de science-fiction edited by Hubert Juin.
