Summary

"Planet of Dread" by Murray Leinster is an early 1960s science fiction story about Moran, an abandoned man struggling on an alien planet teeming with giant insects and strange plants. He begins his journey on the spaceship "Nadine," when he learns he's been unceremoniously dumped to help the remaining crew evade space-port authorities. The adventure begins when is cast onto a cloud-covered planet filled with enormous, bizarre insects, Moran must learn to survive. Themes of loneliness and the will to survive in the face of impossible challenges emerge as he tries to make sense of his abandonment and the toxic world around him.

About the Author

Murray Leinster was a pen name of William Fitzgerald Jenkins, an American writer of genre fiction, particularly of science fiction. He wrote and published more than 1,500 short stories and articles, 14 movie scripts, and hundreds of radio scripts and television plays.
