Summary

"Scrimshaw" by Murray Leinster is a science fiction story that shows a man's struggle to rebuild his broken mind on the desolate landscape of the Moon. Pop Young, haunted by the violent loss of his family, lives as a caretaker in a lunar mining colony, desperately searching for fragments of his stolen memories. The presence of Sattell, the man responsible for his family's death, causes painful echoes of the past to resurface. Adding to the tension, a daring robbery by a red-headed thief ignites a dangerous chain of events, leading to a fiery explosion. From the ashes of this disaster, Pop finds a strange, new material that allows him to channel his grief into art, offering a glimpse of hope amid his suffering and the possibility of a future reclaimed from tragedy.
