"The Head of the Family" by W. W. Jacobs is a funny story that dives into what happens when someone suddenly has to act as the leader of a family. A former ship's carpenter, Mr. Letts, gets mixed up in pretending to be Mrs. Green's son, leading to a lot of funny situations and misunderstandings with Mrs. Green’s stepfather, Mr. Green. He also finds himself in an interesting spot with her daughter, Betty. The story is full of laughs and shows how Mr. Letts handles becoming the "head of the family," even though everything is chaotic. In the end, all the confusion and family drama lead to a surprising twist and culminates in his marriage to Betty.
