"Bill's Lapse" by W. W. Jacobs is a tale set in the early 1900s about a boisterous sailor named Bill Burton, a man of great strength but also great heart, who attempts to quit drinking. The story shows friendship, the downsides of drinking too much, and the hard choices we face. Bill starts drinking again when his friends at the pub tempt him. He becomes violent and hurts his friends in a wild, drunken rage. The next day, Bill is sorry and sees how his drinking has hurt everyone. He feels so bad that he tries to run away from his problems, but things don't go as planned. The story shows how hard it is to deal with addiction and how our choices can affect our relationships.
