Summary

"The Mercenaries" by H. Beam Piper is a science fiction story from the 20th century about a squad of brilliant scientists doing cool physics experiments. However, trouble is brewing when they noticed that one of their own is a traitor who is working for a group called Komintern, who wants to use their scientific advancements for war. The leader of the crew, Duncan MacLeod, figures it out, and the traitor is named Adam Lowiewski. He decides to end the traitor himself to ensure their work is secured. The story makes you wonder about loyalty, the price of scientific discovery, and doing some hard stuff when the world is at stake.

About the Author

Henry Beam Piper was an American science fiction writer. He wrote many short stories and several novels. He is best known for his extensive Terro-Human Future History series of stories and a shorter series of "Paratime" alternate history tales.
