The Mercenaries

"The Mercenaries" by H. Beam Piper is a science fiction story from the 20th century about a squad of brilliant scientists doing cool physics experiments. The leader of the crew, Duncan MacLeod, figures it out, and the traitor is named Adam Lowiewski. He decides to end the traitor himself to ensure their work is secured. The story makes you wonder about loyalty, the price of scientific discovery, and doing some hard stuff when the world is at stake.
