Summary

"The Kentons" by William Dean Howells concerns the Kenton family in their small Midwestern town, delving into their relationships and dreams while exploring themes of family ties, tradition meeting change, and the tangled web of young love; the story begins by showing the Kenton's cozy life in Tuskingum, led by Judge Kenton, a figure of pride and history; however, trouble arises when their daughter, Ellen, falls for Bittridge, thrusting the family into a conflict where they must question what they believe and how society shapes their choices as love, obligation, and personal wants collide within their family.
