Summary

"The Whole Family: A Novel by Twelve Authors" by William Dean Howells, et al. is a story that looks at how family members see the world differently and how they relate to each other in a household. The story opens with a father reacting to his daughter's engagement. He's a happy yet thoughtful man, and his chat with the neighbor shows his views on love, family duties, and what society expects. His thoughts on education for both boys and girls and how it shapes relationships give clues about what he believes in. Through funny conversations and family love, the book shows strong bonds between family and neighbors, but it also teases that this engagement might bring some stress.
