Glen's Creek

"Glen's Creek" by Mary Jane Holmes is a historical novel that takes place in early 19th century Kentucky and tells the story of pioneers facing tough times. The book follows Deacon Wilder’s family, especially his son Charlie, as they try to make a life in the Kentucky wilderness, where Charlie feels lost and misses home. He then he meets Orianna, a Native American woman, and the two become friends; the story also follows others, such as George Wilder and Marian Gorton, as they fall in love. As the story goes on, the settlers face dangers from hostile Native Americans, relationships start, and sacrifices must be made; the biggest surprise is how Orianna is connected to the Gorton family's history, mixing everyone's lives together as they try to live side by side despite their differences.
