"Nick of the Woods; Or, Adventures of Prairie Life" by Robert Montgomery Bird is a story placed in old Kentucky, around 1782, where settlers and Native Americans meet, and tough life choices are made. They meet interesting people like Captain Stackpole and the strange Nick of the Woods. The story takes us on an adventure, looking at family ties and the hard decisions people had to make to stay alive in a scary place.
