"The Abandoned Farm and Connie's Mistake" by Mary Jane Holmes is a story set around the dawn of the 20th century that looks at family connections, who we are, and moving from the country to the crowded city through Alex Marsh and Sherry, and how they affect each other. The plot kicks off with Alex Marsh hearing about his great-uncle Amos Marsh and an abandoned farm he left behind in New Hampshire, which triggers his interest. Adding to this, Alex is also fascinated by Sherry, a girl he saw at the opera. Their paths cross when Alex decides to check out the farm, both to learn about his family's past and because he's drawn to Sherry. Throughout the story, we follow Alex and Sherry as they choose between family ties and chasing their dreams.
