The Mathematicians

"The Mathematicians" by Arthur Feldman is a science fiction story that follows the An-vils, an alien race of mathematically gifted beings, as they travel from Sirius to invade Earth and enslave humanity. Drake Hawkins tells his daughter, Zoe, of the An-vils' invasion, where the winged and tailed humanoids meet initial resistance from Earth's forces, but their advanced intellect makes them unstoppable. The fight for survival changes when Knowall, a psychiatrist, creates a brilliant strategy making use of human feelings to divide the aliens, leading to civil chaos and the majority of the An-vils returning home, except for two children who decide Earth feels more like home.
