Summary

"Turning Point" by Alfred Coppel is an early science fiction story that paints a picture of a future world shared by humans and androids, but fractured by prejudice and fear. The story centers on Director Han Merrick, who manages a facility that creates androids, as he faces growing tensions fueled by Sweyn Erikson, the leader of a group promoting human dominance. As Erikson investigates Merrick’s facility, the story explores the moral questions surrounding the creation and control of artificial life, and the dangers of unchecked prejudice. The story builds to an explosive moment when the androids rise up, challenging the established order and changing the course for both humans and machines.
