Summary

"The Untouchable Adolescents" by Ellis Hart is a science fiction story that unfolds on the doomed planet Diamore, where Captain Luther Shreve and Psych Officer Karl Teller arrive with a mission to save the telepathic Diamoraii from impending volcanic annihilation. The story centers on the frustrating and heartbreaking challenge of offering aid to a race of young aliens who, burned by past betrayals, stubbornly resist any outside help. Despite Shreve's earnest intentions, the Diamoraii's deep-seated mistrust and youthful arrogance blind them to the impending disaster, leading to a tragic clash of cultures and highlighting the difficulties of interstellar communication and intervention as Shreve grapples with the futility of his efforts against Diamoraii pride and their planet's cataclysmic fate.
