Summary

"At the Mountains of Madness" by H. P. Lovecraft is a mix of science fiction and horror where a group of scientists goes on an Antarctic adventure and finds some really old, maybe dangerous, secrets from when Earth was super young. The main character tries to warn everyone that finding out these secrets could be really bad, especially because of some mysterious old civilization possibly hidden under the ice. When the story starts, we learn about the expedition's planning, what they're bringing, and why they're going. The person telling the story makes you feel like something bad is going to happen when they talk about what they might find in Antarctica. The main character's warnings make it seem like the truth is scary and could make you go crazy, which makes the journey seem like it's full of danger and shocking discoveries. What starts as a science trip quickly becomes scary, with hints of old stories and strange things happening.
