"Space Blackout" by Sam Carson is a science fiction story about humanity's adventures in space and the serious results of new technologies. Set sometime probably around the early to mid-1900s, it's about Earth people meeting Martians and working together to save a planet from being destroyed by a huge space cloud. Jerry Kos, a super-good navigator, and Jim Drake, who is in charge of the spaceship Pelios, have to go to a far-off planet named Spor. They were asked by Shadrak, a Martian leader, to rescue the people living there, who are related to the old Atlantis civilization, before the planet gets wiped out by a dark cloud called Noir. When they land on Spor, they find a group of people who don't want to leave, even though they are in big danger. This causes problems with their leader, Garok, who makes things hard for them. Jerry and Jim have to deal with the people of Spor not believing them and fighting each other, all while trying to convince them to escape. In the end, they manage to escape with only a few survivors as the planet is destroyed, showing how hard it is to save a group of people when they do not want to save themselves.
