Summary

"The House of the Misty Star" by Frances Little is a story set in Japan that looks at themes of youth, hope, and love through Miss Jenkins, a woman who runs a house full of memories and guests from different places. Her somewhat uneventful life gets shaken up with the arrival of Jane Gray, a young missionary. As Miss Jenkins thinks about her past and her time teaching in Japan, she hopes for more excitement. Jane's arrival brings change, especially when her actions lead them to Kishimoto San, a Japanese school leader, and his granddaughter, Zura, who struggles between Western and Eastern ideas. The beginning of the book introduces a mix of characters and cultural differences, creating a story of personal growth, exploring society, and dealing with the complexities of love and friendship.
