Summary

"Children of Men" by Eden Phillpotts is an early 20th-century novel that paints a picture of life on Dartmoor, examining love, duty, and how people grow morally. At the heart of the story are Jacob Bullstone, a sincere dog breeder, and Margery Huxam, his kennel-maid, who are about to get married. Their relationship grows with respect, even though there's a noticeable age difference. As their families get ready for a dinner to celebrate them getting engaged, the air is thick with love but also worry, especially from Margery's mom, who isn't quite sure about this match. The beautiful Dartmoor setting adds to the characters' feelings and the social rules they have to deal with.
