Summary

"The Courting of Lady Jane" by Josephine Daskam Bacon is a story set at the start of the 1900s that shows love, growing up, and tricky family ties. It follows Colonel Driscoll, a man getting older, as he falls in love with Lady Jane Leroy, a lovely young woman. Driscoll asks Jane to marry so they can share their lives, which seems nice, but they are different ages. Things get hard when Jane's mom, Mrs. Leroy, worries about losing her daughter. The story shows feelings and how what people want and what society expects can be different, teaching that being truly happy is more important than doing what's expected.
