The Three Brothers

"The Three Brothers" by Eden Phillpotts is a story set in the early 1900s that looks at the interwoven lives of the Baskerville brothers, Vivian, Nathan, and Humphrey. Each brother has distinct moral character traits and individual outlooks on life. The book follows the brothers in Dartmoor in Devon, along with the trials they undertake as individuals and a family. The story looks at different themes, such as family connections, what society wants from people, love, and how time changes everything. It also begins with Milly Luscombe and Rupert Baskerville having a sweet, romantic conversation, however the complication arrives as Rupert’s father is not in favor of early marriages. The story also introduces Humphrey and his son Mark which hints at differences in personality and the brewing tensions in the family. The setting allows looking at the brother's lives, connections, and how they interact.
