Summary

"The Grey Room" by Eden Phillpotts is a suspenseful book set at Chadlands, the grand estate of Sir Walter Lennox, where a weekend gathering spins into a chilling mystery. Sir Walter, an aging baronet, attempts to uphold tradition, while his daughter Mary finds herself at the center of unspoken affections involving her husband, Tom May, a war hero, and her cousin, Henry Lennox. The arrival of the guests for an autumn house party sets the scene for a web of relationships. Their frivolity soon takes a dark turn when Tom accepts a dangerous challenge: to spend the night in the infamous Grey Room, where a past tragedy casts a long shadow over the estate. As tensions rise and secrets threaten to unravel, the narrative explores themes of love, loss, and the terrifying power of the supernatural, leaving readers on edge as they await the room's effects.
