The writing reflects on Browning's love for earlier poets, notably his initial awe of Shelley's poems. Specific works like "Memorabilia" highlight the shift from early enthusiasm to a more mature understanding. The book also points to the significant roles other poets of the time, like Keats and Wordsworth, had in changing Browning's views and imagination.
