Summary

"Folle-Farine" by Ouida is a story from the late 1800s about a young girl named Folle-Farine, seen as almost nothing by the harsh miller who mistreats her and forces her to work relentlessly. The story starts with Folle-Farine being compared to mill dust; a symbol of insignificance, the narrative unfolds in a grim setting dominated by labor and abuse. Folle-Farine, though young and living a difficult life filled with longing for freedom, silently endures all the hardships and cruelty she faces; this shows her immense strength. The story shows the harshness of society, and her battle for a sense of self-worth and freedom. This sets the stage for a complex tale of innocence, abandonment, and resilience against merciless conditions.
