Summary

"The Foundations" by John Galsworthy is a play that takes place shortly after World War I, exploring British society's changing landscape. The story focuses on Lord William Dromondy and his family as they navigate a time of social disruption, mainly the rising tension between different social classes. The play starts in Lord William's wine cellar, where his daughter, Little Anne, and a footman named James reveal, through their informal conversation, the issues caused by society's rigid class system and the prospect of revolution. The characters discuss serious issues with an upbeat tone, which highlights the contrast between the wealthy, represented by Lord William, and the working class, represented by characters like Mrs. Lemmy, hinting at a possible confrontation between these groups. The play will address themes of standing up for what is right during times of difficulty.
